BGTC on Martha’s Vineyard 2025
Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard
August is one of the most vibrant times to be on Martha’s Vineyard, a month when the island fills with Black culture, history, and community. For the second year in a row, Black Girls Tennis Club was proud to be part of that energy. What began as a vision just two summers ago is quickly becoming a tradition, one that brings tennis into conversation with the deep cultural legacy the Vineyard represents.
In partnership with USTA and G4GC, we expanded our footprint on the island and created new spaces for play, connection, and joy.
Tennis Clinics
On Wednesday, August 13, we hosted morning clinics at the Island Inn courts, welcoming players of every age and skill level. First-timers picked up racquets for the very first time, while seasoned players worked on their strokes. The courts buzzed with learning, laughter, and a shared love of the game.
Mindful Play
On Friday, August 15, we gathered at Farm Neck Tennis for an evening dedicated to movement and self-care. Blending tennis with mindfulness practices, participants left feeling grounded, balanced, and more connected.
This summer also marked another chapter in our documentary project on Black tennis in Martha’s Vineyard. We continued capturing the island’s rich history while documenting the new stories being written today.
The Vineyard has become a home for BGTC. Each year we return, we’re reminded of the joy, the history, and the cultural legacy that make this month, and this island, so special. We’re grateful to the Vineyard community for embracing us once again, and to our partners: USTA, G4GC, and Amanda Finney, for helping bring these experiences to life.
