BGTC is looking for a Program Assistant & Coach!
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Assistant & Coach to support the implementation of our local tennis programming, community events, and on‑court coaching. This hybrid role combines the responsibilities of program coordination with the hands-on engagement of coaching youth and/or adult participants.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about youth empowerment, tennis, community-building, and creating joyful, affirming spaces for Black girls and women. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
On‑Court Coaching & Player Development
Foster an inclusive, positive, and affirming environment where all girls feel seen and valued.
Help facilitate group warm-ups, icebreakers, and check-in activities.
Implement age-appropriate drills and training sessions focused on skill development, fitness, and tennis fundamentals.
Provide individualized coaching to meet players where they are and support their growth.
Support participants as they use journals, workbooks, and other curriculum tools.
Participate in BGTC team meetings to offer feedback, program insights, and ideas to help us innovate and grow.
Commit to growing your own tennis and coaching skills through BGTC training, practice, and USTA coaching resources.
Program Support & Logistics
Track participant attendance and maintain organized program records.
Assist with sending schedule updates, reminders, and event communications to families and participants.
Set up and break down equipment for practices, clinics, and community events.
Support survey distribution, feedback collection, and reporting after sessions and events.
Maintain and organize equipment and maintain inventory
Assist with distributing snacks, water, and program materials.
Support coaches and leadership team with on-site needs during all BGTC activations.
Community Outreach and Engagement
Build strong relationships with families, serving as a warm and reliable point of contact.
Recruit and manage volunteers to support with program logistics.
Serve as the regional main point of contact and lead relationship-building with schools, recreation centers, and community partners.
Lead the expansion of programming in the region to deepen visibility, community impact and drive fundraising efforts to support future BGTC programming.
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Passion for youth development, community programming, and/or sports-based empowerment.
Enthusiasm for tennis; prior experience playing or coaching
Friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills.
Comfortable working with children, families, and community organizations.
Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends during the tennis season (March - November)
CPR/First Aid Certification and USTA SafePlay Certification (or willingness to complete).
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
This is a part-time, hourly position with a split compensation structure:
$15/hour for administrative, logistics, and program support tasks
Coaching rate (premium hourly) for on‑court coaching duties
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Locations currently hiring: Hampton Roads, VA, New York City and Washington, DC
Must have evening and weekend availability through tennis season (March - November)
A background check, USTA SafePlay certification, and CPR/First Aid certification (support to obtain these can be provided).
